About this course

Students will normally be 18 years or over and have a minimum of one A2, an AVCE, Access or ESF qualification in Art and Design. All applicants are subject to a portfolio interview. Applications from mature students without the above qualifications are also welcome.

About the Course
- The Foundation Diploma provides students with a programme that consolidates their artistic development.
- The course will enable the student to develop visual perception and aesthetic awareness through a wide range of creative work.
- Students have the opportunity to explore all areas of art and design including fine art, graphics, photography, textiles, 3D design etc.
- Students are encouraged to express their ideas and imagination throughout their projects. The study of art and design from other cultures and historical contexts will also be explored.
- It also provides progression by building a portfolio suitable for a Higher Education interview in an Art and Design based subject.

The course is continuously assessed internally, with an external assessment at the end of the programme.
Are there any resources to obtain?
Students will be expected to purchase their own art and design materials (the department offers a comprehensive starter pack of materials at a competative price)and contribution to the cost of consumables.

There can be examination/accreditation fees for this course. There are also likely to be costs associated with materials.
What facilities can be used on this course?
Students will have access to a base room plus all the art design and photographic facilities within the department
What next?
Students will have a portfolio suitable for progression into a programme of higher education or employment. This could be either an HND or Degree in Art and Design Course.
