This course runs in 2016/17.

The course has been designed as a preparatory experience for students wishing to gain access to studio-based Art and Design programmes at HND or BA level within the UK and beyond.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This broad-based course primarily aims to identify and improve upon your existing strengths and aptitudes within art and design and to help guide you towards making an informed and appropriate choice with regard to your future study. You will be working in professional studios and workshops alongside undergraduate and postgraduate level students.

You will be supported by a highly professional, skilled and dedicated team of experienced staff who are all practicing artists and designers and who have exhibited both nationally and internationally.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?

The course is split into three stages:

The Exploratory Stage: You will develop work related to a broad spectrum of art and design practice. This work will be developed from a range of short individual and group projects.

The Pathway Stage: You will choose a specialist area and will work on exciting projects that will push your understanding and working practices in relation to this specialism.

The Confirmatory Stage: You will write and work to your own self-initiated project brief and will have the opportunity to showcase the outcomes from this project in the end of year public exhibition.

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

Your course will be primarily based on the development of your studio practice but you will also have lectures, seminars and workshops.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

An estimated percentage breakdown of how your final grade is assessed is as follows: project work 80%; reports, essays 20%.

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

In a typical week you will have up to 20 contact hours of teaching comprising:

Personal tutorials/small group teaching – 4 hours of small group teaching each week
Medium group teaching – 15 hours of directed studio practice each week
Large group teaching – 1 hours of lectures each week
Personal study - 16 hours of self-directed studio/workshop practice each week
