The Foundation Diploma will enable you to develop a broad understanding of the hair and beauty sector. The course introduces you to the hair and beauty industry, teaching you the importance of creating a good impression through customer service. In addition to 10 days relevant work experience and a project undertaken in Year 2.

The topics you will study include:

· Introducing the hair and beauty sector
· Creating a positive impression within hair and beauty
· An introduction to hair styling
· An introduction to skin care routines
· An introduction to hand and nail care routines
· Personal appearance, style and well being within hair and beauty
· Careers in hair and beauty
· Basic hair styling techniques for women
· Plaiting and twisting techniques for hair
· Basic nail art techniques
· Basic make-up techniques.

The course will develop your personal learning, thinking skills and ability to work as part of a team. In addition to this the course will also help develop your analytical, creative, problemsolving and interpersonal skills.

During the course you will have the opportunity to achieve additional qualifications in English, Maths and ICT.

How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed continuously during the course through a range of completed assignments, investigations, practical assessments
and an external exam.

Progression
On successful completion you may:

Progress to the Higher Diploma in Hairand Beauty.

Or

NVQ 2 in either Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.

Or

Progress to an Apprenticeship in either Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy.

This course is equivalent to 5 GCSEs at grades D-G.
