Course programme

Please refer to the 16 to 19 study programme document to learn more.COMMITMENT TO ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS

English and Mathematic skills are essential to education and employment prospects. UKSA is committed to supporting levels of English and Mathematic development throughout programmes. Where necessary, English and Maths sessions will be included in the study programme as a compulsory element. These sessions are in addition to the contextualised English and Maths that is embedded into every vocational programme at UKSA.

This Level 1 programme is designed to provide foundation knowledge and skills required in outdoor industries, further training or employment. Your personal attributes and qualities will be developed through the active participation in outdoor pursuits such as sailing and orienteering; creating an enthusiastic and confident person with skills to develop further in life or a chosen career.

The awarding body for this qualification is NOCN. NOCN is a leading credit-based awarding organisation that has been creating opportunities and is trusted by learners, educational organisations and employers for over 30 years. Candidates will be working towards the successful completion of a Level 1 Diploma in Skills for Employment, Training and Personal Development; created from specially selected units by UKSA in Sport and Outdoor Industries. The course embeds skills and knowledge required for progression in a modulated portfolio basis. There is a blend of theory based and vocational learning capturing evidence that can be reflected upon within the course and during future training opportunities. The units within the qualification follow the QCF (Qualification and Credit Framework). The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) introduces a standard currency for learner achievement across the qualifications system and different awarding bodies through the awarding of credit values.

Additional Qualifications

At UKSA we understand the importance of further training and experience in order to successfully progress into further study or employment. During the course additional qualifications* will be delivered. These will range from Stand-Up Paddle Boarding offered through BSUPA to Dingy Sailing via the RYA and a First Aid Certificate. Candidates will be offered additional qualifications as part of their studies at the beginning of the academic year. The skills and knowledge required for the achievement of these will be gained through weekly practical sessions. Attendance will be paramount in order to successfully complete these qualifications**.
