French A2
Your Course
The French A2 level course is suitable for students who have completed the AS course or who have studied French for at least 3-4 years.
The examination Board we use is AQA, new specification (2650). This new syllabus is only compatible with the new AS taken in June 2009. Students with an AS level in French from Curriculum 2000-2008 will need to re-sit their AS in order to be able to complete the full A level. It is possible to sit AS and A2 in the same year.
The A2 examination consists of the following units:
· Unit 3: Listening, reading and writing. Time: 2.5 hours, weighing 35% of total A level marks.
· Unit 4: Speaking test. Time: 35 minutes, (including 20 minutes preparation time), weighing 15% of total A level marks
This course will cover the following topic areas:
· ENVIRONMENT: pollution, energy and protecting the planet
· THE MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY: immigration, integration and racism
· CONTEMPORARY SOCIAL ISSUES: wealth and poverty, law and order and the impact of scientific and technological progress
· CULTURAL TOPIC: the study of a French speaking region/community; or a period of 20th century French history; or a French speaking novelist/dramatist/poet, or a director/architect/musician/painter.
The library houses a large variety of Modern Languages resources. You will be able to access the Modern Languages homepages on the IT network. Application for computer access is required.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Extend your understanding of the spoken and written forms of French in a variety of registers.
· Use the language to analyse, evaluate, hypothesise, argue a case and present viewpoints in speech and writing.
· Develop critical insights into contact the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of France and French speaking communities.
Your Tutor
Joelle Mckenzie graduated in Business Administration in Reims, France and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at Cambridge University. She is an experienced translator and an accredited teacher and examiner of French at GCSE and A level. She has over 15 years experience of interpreting and translating and her career spans both the worlds of teaching and business.

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
