What is this course about?
The course aims to develop your understanding of the language and culture of France and other French speaking countries.

What topics will I study?
  • At AS: Topicsinclude daily life, health, leisure, transport and tourism.
  • At A2 : You will continue to develop your language skills through topics such as the environment and science and technology.
How will my work be assessed?

At AS:
  • End-of-year exams in Unit 1 (the speaking test) and Unit 2 (a written paper, testing your reading, listening and writing skills)
At A2:
  • Unit 3 exam (speaking test)
  • Unit 4 exam (a written paper with a variety of tasks involving comprehension as well as an extended essay).

What knowledge do I need to succeed?
  • You will need a prior knowledge of French at GCSE (B grade or above: higher paper)
  • An interest in France and French speaking countries is essential.
What skills will I need to develop to succeed?
  • You should have good independent study skills.
  • A willingness to express yourself orally is essential to succeed in the oral component of the examination.
What are the lessons like?
  • A range of teaching and learning styles is used during the course and the lessons are very varied.
  • In order to practise the four language skills you will work individually, in pairs and in groups at different times.
  • You will spend about half your lesson time in the language laboratory, completing listening exercises, speaking tasks, working on-line and word-processing written work.
