You will build on your existing skills in speaking, writing, listening and reading French. You will increase your vocabulary during the year and become more accurate with your grammar. We will be using a wide range of materials - music, video, newspaper articles, as well as the course book and the accompanying grammar book. We will be discussing current topics and writing essays on French themes.

What you need to know
How will I study?

You will study 4 themes with themes 1,3 & 4 focusing on aspects of French society or history of France and theme 2 looking at broader knowledge across francophone countries and communities. Themes cover Les changements dans la societe francaise, La culture politique et artistique dans les pays francophones, L’immigration et la societe multiculturelle francaise and L’Occupation et la Resistance.
How will I be taught?

You will have 4.5 hours of French a week, which will include class sessions to cover the grammar and vocabulary of each of the topic areas. Through a range of materials, you will be introduced to new language and be given plenty of opportunity to practice it. You will have intensive speaking practice with a French assistant, ensuring good preparation for the speaking component of the exam. The course book is supported by excellent online interactive exercises, videos and worksheets.
How will I be assessed?

This is a 2 year linear A Level where you are examined on the whole syllabus at the end of the second year. You will be assessed at the end of year one and will need to achieve a D grade in order to progress to year 2.
