About this course

By the end of the course (either one or two days) you will be able to prepare and French polish wooden surfaces to create a range of finishes, from matt to satin to high 'piano' gloss. One day covers all the stages in contracted time; two days allows more time to take the surfaces to a further stage of completion;

Suitable for complete beginners or those with some experience.
This is probably the only course that offers one-to-one tuition for the same price you might pay for a group lesson elsewhere..

No specific skills needed; just an interest in learning the art of French Polishing and the patience to work carefully to produce a beautiful finish.

Certificates of Completion are awarded.

One-to-one tuition makes our course unique. You receive intensive individual tuition throughout the day.

Course programme

Our traditional French Polishing Courses include cleaning and preparing surfaces, grain filling, staining, sealing, skinning in, bodying up, stiffing, spiriting off, glazing and burnishing, to produce a finished result consistent with the style and period of the piece.
You will learn how to create a matt, satin, and high gloss 'piano' finish. Courses run throughout the year, and no previous experience is needed. The dates are arranged individually to suit you, and we normally teach on a one-to-one basis.
Work on our practice boards and on a small piece of furniture that you can bring with you.
