A2 Level History

Why should I study A2 Level History?

Everything that happens in the present is based on what happened in the past. Studying History therefore helps understanding of the present enabling us to make sense of the world in which we live. Studying History also develops highly the marketable skills of evaluation, analysis and the ability to appreciate different points of view.

History is a good subject for students who wish to pursue courses in Law and Journalism as well as History itself.

What will be studied on the course?
Unit 3 Aspects of international relations 1945-2004. This covers the Cold War and its aftermath.
Unit 4 Coursework. A period of 100 years is taught and then the student can choose individually an aspect to research further.

When does the course start and how long does it last?
The course starts in September and ends the following June.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?
You need to have a pass grade at AS.

Where is the course based?
The course is based at the Lanchester site.

How will the learner be assessed?
Unit 3 is assessed by a 1 hour 30 minutes examination which you will take in June.
Unit 4 is coursework which is marked by the teacher and externally moderated.

How much will the course cost?
Text books are provided and the LRC is well stocked. You are expected to provide your own paper, pens etc.

What progression routes are available?
Most students will progress to university although A2 is a qualification in its own right.
