Fee Information: The College charges a range of fees, primarily Home and Overseas. Under 19s assessed as Home, do not pay the course fees, we only charge a 20 enrolment fee which is refunded if you complete the course. Home students over 19 undertaking their First Full Level 2 (equivalent to 5 GCSE A-C) or their First Full Level 3 (equivalent to BTEC National or 2 ALevels) will be charged 20 enrolment fee plus any examination fees. For Home students over 19 receiving certain state benefits, the 20 enrolment is charged and not refundable. In all other instances, you will be charged the Home-EU or Overseas Fee.
About the course:
This course aims to give you a general introduction to the English legal system. Throughout the course you will be encouraged to develop an understanding of how legal institutions operate and the changing nature of law within society. There are 2 units:
1. English Legal System
2. Sources of Law
The course covers a variety of topics including police powers, the legal profession, sentencing and criminal procedure.
Assessment:
The course is assessed by 2 modular exams in AS and 2 modular exams in A2. There is no coursework component for Law.
After the course:
After successful completion of an AS you can progress onto the second year and complete an A Level. A2 law concentrates on Criminal Law and covers such topics as murder, manslaughter, theft, assaults and their various defences. After this you can progress onto further study, as this course will provide you with a suitable foundation for the study of Law, Business Studies, Social Sciences or related courses. Alternatively you can seek employment in your chosen field.
