Course Details
If you are interested in the structure of English and how language is used in social and work - based contexts then this course will appeal to you. It will provide you with an introdution to the concepts and approaches used in the study of language. You will develop critical and analytical skills and learn techniques used in language investigation.
Topics covered in AS include:
· Basic techniques of analysing spoken and written English
· Language used in different social and work contexts
· Complete a folder of original writing
· Developing linguistic approaches
· Learning about morphology, phonology and grammar
Topics covered in A2 are:
· Learning how language has changed over time
· How young children acquire language both spoken and written
· Completing an investigation project into an aspect of spoken or
written language plus writing for a non - specialist audience

Entry Requirements:
Progression/Careers: UCAS points are gained according to your level of achievement. You may progress onto university degrees or HNDs.
Degrees that can be followed are English, Linguistics or a related Arts or Humanities subject. This subject is useful in careers such as journalism, administration, publishing and teaching. The analytical and critical skills you develop will be appreciated by employers and universities.
