About this course

Students must be aged 16 years or over and preferably have 4 GCSEs grade C and above, including English and Maths. Entry is also possible for adults who wish to retrain or develop new skills, but who do not have the required GCSEs, provided they have good literacy and numeracy skills and the potential to succeed.

Course description
This full-time vocational course enables you to gain the knowledge, skills and qualifications required for a career in Accountancy. Classes take place 3 days a week between 9.15am and 2.45pm for the foundation course and 4 days a week between 9.15am and 2.45pm for the Intermediate course. This makes it suitable for both post-GCSE students wishing to gain a vocational qualification before starting work and mature students wishing to change career or gain qualifications before returning to work. Students start on the foundation level in September and, on successful completion, continue on to the intemediate level in January.
Foundation Level: September - December (3 days per week 9.15am to 2.45pm). Recording income and receipts, making and recording payments, preparing ledger balances and an initial trial balance, supplying information for management control, health and safety, achieving personal effectiveness and working with information technology. Double entry book-keeping will be taught both manually and using SAGE Computerised Accounts.
Final award
You will build up a portfolio of evidence for assessment throughout the course using AAT skills tests. In December you will take one exam in Preparing Ledger Balances, which is set and marked by the AAT. On successful completion of the course Certificate for NVQ 2 Accounting will be awarded by the AAT.

Additional information
Remission of fees is possible in some cases: if you are on benefits, if you are under 19, or if you don't have a full level 2 qualification. We also have a learning support fund. Please enquire.
There will be expenses for materials at both Foundation and Intermediate levels.
Homework will be set each week - the amount of time this will take will vary depending on your ability, previous knowledge and speed of working. On average 7-8 hours per week should be allowed for this.
Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150.
