About the course:
In order to gain the Access to HE Diploma in Nursing you will need to achieve the right number and level of credits. These are set by the awarding body, Open College Network London Region (OCNLR). In order to gain an Access to HE Diploma you must achieve at least 60 credits 45 at level 3 and 15 at level 2 or 3. Credits are gained by completing units- some units are mandatory and some are optional. Mandatory units are common to all OCNLR- validated courses of this type and are usually study skills units and are designed to prepare you for University level study regardless of the degree you finally opt for. The remaining units will be optional which means the actual units included, and the number of units, will differ from one course to another.

To gain the Access to HE Diploma in Nursing you will need to achieve the following combination of credits:

English: 3 mandatory units
Maths: 3 mandatory units
Study Skills: 2 mandatory units
I.T.: 1 mandatory unit
Health Science: min 4 units
Sociology of Health, Nursing studies, Psychology & Additional Health Sciences: min 6 units
+ 1 additional unit from any of the above (total 20 units).

Assessment:
The course is accredited by the London Open College Network. LOCN credits which students achieve on the course permit entry to higher education in the same way as A Levels, BTC National or GNVQ Advanced qualifications.

After the course:
The great majority of our students go on to these institutions. Recent students have also gained places at South Bank, Kingston and Greenwich universities to study Nursing.
If you are interested in this course but have been resident in the UK for less than 2 years, you are strongly advised to check whether you will be eligible for the NHS Student Bursary, as this will be essential for progressing beyond Access into a Nursing Diploma or Degree.
