Course Details
The Ahead course is an access to higher education course. This course is validated by the Open College Network and is nationally recognised. Access courses offer those individuals without the necessary academic background, an opportunity to study for University entry and provide an alternative to more traditional qualifications. The course can be studied over one year (16 hours per week), or two years (approximately 7.5 hours per week). 1 year students take 4 modules, study skills (Core) plus 3 modules chosen from those available to match with an intended university course. Students must also attend an IT class and Tutorial. 2 year students take 2 modules per year and are advised to take study skills in their first year. Each of the modules studied are split into units and completion of each unit, gains the student Open College Network credits. To achieve the Access to Higher Education Certificate, a student must attain a mimimum of 60 credits. Some university courses require more than 60 credits for entry. For this reason, some students on the course will have the opportunity to gain up to 78 credits. You have the opportunity to discuss modular choice prior to the start of the course. English Literature Law Psychology Sociology History Business Studies ICT Students may also be required to study for GCSE Maths or English should their chosen University course require either of these.
