Is this course for you
The course is designed purely to enable entrance to University. Learners in the past have gone onto study anything from Archaeology to Zoology as well as Teacher Training and Social Work.
Duration
One year (full time) / two years (part time).
What will you study
You will study essay writing skills, communication skills, IT skills, research techniques and presentation techniques. All of which will be required within a degree programme. You will have the opportunity to gain work experience in two suitable healthcare settings. You will also study core units which will include: Sociology * Psychology * Reflective Practice * Science * Principles of Nursing.
How will you be assessed
The Access to Healthcare is made up of 60 credits. Credits are awarded through assessment at the end of/or during each module. To achieve the full certificate learners must pass 15 credits at Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) and 45 credits at Level 3 (A level equivalent). Assessments can take a variety of forms. They range from completing an essay question, to giving a presentation, taking an exam or producing a poster. All of these skills will be taught during the course.
What can you do after course
The course is designed purely to enable entrance to University. Learners this year have been hugely successful in gaining places on highly competitive Midwifery, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health and General Nursing Courses.
Additional information
You will be assigned a tutor at the outset of the course. The tutor will closely monitor and track your progress and be able to help with issues of organising study and stop the problem of assignments piling up! The tutor will monitor your attendance, which must not fall below 80% throughout the year. The tutor will organise any additional support where required and signpost you to other staff members for advice on finances or counselling needs.
