Access To Music L2: Performing Musician Diploma
This course is aimed at intermediate level musicians and singers (Grades 1-3 on entry, who are interested in a career in the music industry). The focus of the course is performance within a Rock and Pop band, therefore it is aimed at students who play guitar, bass, drums and keyboards and singers. (Trumpet, trombones and saxophones can also be accommodated). The course aims to build confidence in performing and working within a group, and to develop musical knowledge and skills, and awareness of the music industry in general. Students will perform in various musical styles, including rock, soul and funk. There will be a number of public performances throughout the year in various local venues. Applicants who have not obtained any music grade qualifications, can use the audition process to ascertain their instrumental level. The ability to read and write music will be taught from scratch.

  • Contextualising Music (Music History)
  • Music Style Development
  • Using a Harmony Instrument (piano
  • /guitar)

  • Arranging Music (Style)
  • Composing Music (Style)
  • Music Sequencing and Production
  • Music Theory
  • Popular Music Theory (LCM Syllabus) and Rockschool Instrumental and Vocal grade examinations are incorporated into this course. Examinations take place in June each year. All students will study a first and second instrument (instrument includes voice), one of which must be piano or guitar. The second instrument may be at total beginner level. Much of the classwork is practical-based, although there will be a small amount of written work.

      Entry Process:
      All applicants are invited to an interview. This provides the opportunity for us to assess your suitability and for you to obtain further information. Interviews are normally held between January and September of the year in which the course starts. Students will be invited for an interview day including course information, audition and personal interview.

      Assessment:
      The course is practical / vocational and therefore does not include work experience placements.

      Progression Routes:
      Level 3 / 4 Performing Musician courses.

      Career Options:
      Progression to Level 3/4. Potential live band work/song-writing.
