WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
The purpose of this course is to prepare you for entry to university. You will be working at A-level standard, studying specific subjects as well as learning essential study skills to enable you to succeed at degree level. It is aimed at mature learners and is a nationally recognised course. It is welcomed by Higher Education institutions, including the local universities: DeMontfort, Leicester and Northampton.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
You will study a combination of compulsory and option units:

Compulsory:

Core skills (level 3) indluding study skills, research methods, applying for HE and presentation skills
Information Technology (level 2)
GCSE Mathematics (level 2)
GCSE English (level 2)

Options (level 3)

Biology / History*
English Literature*
Teaching

Note the 2 National Curriculum Subjects* are usually taken alongside the Teaching option.

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for approximately 17 hours per week. In addition, you are advised to spend 10 - 15 hours per week on coursework at home or in college. Your classroom hours are usually between 9.30 am and 3.00 pm.

This course may be studied over 2 years and consists of about 8 hours per week in class plus 6 hours per week on coursework. (Although the course fees are more expensive for this option).

WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
You will need to obtain a minimum of 60 credits, 45 of which must be at Level 3 (A Level equivalent). You will also need to complete work experience placements.

On successful completion you will gain an Access to Higher Education Diploma accredited by Open College Network East Midlands Region (OCNEMR)

3l110-09 Course fees 0 16-18 year olds, 352(19) 19 years and over

Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.
