About this course
This one-year course ideally requires relevant experience and 2 GCSEs in English, Maths and Science is needed at grade D or above or completion of the Level 1 Foundation Animal Care course at Merit or Distinction level.

Aim of course
Students will gain a general overview of animal care and management, concentrating on building a strong foundation of knowledge and practical skills for further progression onto other courses or employment within the Animal Care industry.
What will the course involve?
The course consists of eleven units and these are all taught and assessed within the working environment of the College. Units include: animal health and well being, feeding and watering animals, introduction to animal science, animal housing, animal behaviour and handling, care of small animals and birds, introduction to animal nursing, veterinary practice and wildlife care and rehabilitation.
What can I do afterwards?
Following satisfactory completion of the programme at Merit or Distinction levels students may progress onto the Advanced National Certificate in Animal Care.
