About this course
Grades A*-C at GCSE in double science, maths and english. Alternatively, a merit grade for an Intermediate GNVQ or BTEC First Diploma in a related subject. Mature students will be considered on the merits of their work experience.

Introduction
Medical scientists and technicians support the health care services in investigating and analysing samples and blood tests in the laboratory. The course provides the knowledge, understanding and skills for those who wish to enter this important service, which has been at the forefront of recent technological advances. Through this demanding but fascinating course of study, students develop an understanding of science that can be applied to a variety of science-based careers.

Method of Study
The course will be mainly delivered through lectures, practicals and individual, group and project work in class. There will be visits organised to specialist working environments. Some lectures will be delivered by outside speakers with specialisms in the areas to be studied.
Progression
Students may use this qualification to seek employment in a laboratory, or go on to Higher Education and a degree programme in applied science subjects, particularly those linked to medical science.
