Art and Design - AS & A Level
You would choose this course in order to learn the basic art and design skills of drawing, painting and sculpture. You will be expected to have a keen interest in improving your painting, drawing, three-dimensional and printing skills and developing your knowledge of the history of art. You will be introduced to expert current practitioners in the field of art. You will visit galleries of national and international importance and be given opportunities to exhibit your own work at the college (and possibly at venues outside the college). This is an excellent course for anyone wishing to pursue a career in the visual arts such as the theatre, public sculpture, resident artist, art therapy, etc.

What will I need to follow the course?
You will need 6 GCSEs grades A-C. You will be expected to have achieved grade A or B in GCSE Art & Design or Design & Technology. Requirements for adults will be different.

What will I study?
You will study and develop basic skills in art & design such as drawing, painting and various aspects of design. The main areas of the syllabus are:

Will I have to sit any examinations?
There will be an examination at the end of the year. You will also be assessed on your coursework.

What will I have at the end of the course?
An AS qualification. You will also be able to study the subject for another year and gain an A level certificate. You will study more specialist areas during the second year.

What next?
The course can lead to a more specialist Pre-Degree Diploma in Art & Design (available at the college) or art and design courses at University.
