About this course

You should have achieved one of the following: successful completion of the Introductory Diploma, four GCSEs at grades D-G or other related Level 1 and 2 qualifications. An appropriate standard of literacy and numeracy.

What will I study?
Students either progressing from school or from other backgrounds will receive an extremely hands on experience of Art, Design and Media. The course is delivered through a series of practical assignments which are delivered by specialist staff in specialist facilities.

One year - full time

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
It is most important that you have an interest and an enthusiasm for the visual world with an openness to new ideas, methods of producing Art and Design outcomes. Having applied all selections for a place on the course are by interview during which you will be asked to show a Portfolio of Art, Design and Media work you have produced.

How will I be assessed?
The course is made up of four core units which everyone takes and two specialist units. These enable you to study particular areas in more depth. All Units are assessed progressively at either pass, merit or distinction and are delivered across a range of assignments. You must gain at least a pass in each unit in order to pass the qualification and progress.

What can I do afterwards?
Over 90% of our most successful students can progress onto the Level 3 National Diplomas in Art and Design.

Are there any additional costs involved?
You will need to put aside some money for materials and equipment; typically £150 over the year, which averages out at around £5 per week.
