Course content

Ideas and Concepts
Visual Communication
Contextual Influences in Art & design
A further 13 units will be studied in 4 different practical subject areas:
Fine Art (Drawing & Painting)
Graphic Design
Textiles
Photography

How Will I Be Assessed?
All units comprise a range of practical and written assignments which focus on the different skills needed to develop work in the four practical areas. Each unit will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and your 18 units will be equivalent to 3 A Levels.

What Could I Do Next?
There are a wide range of careers in Art & Design from practical design and making careers to teaching and gallery administration. Some students with clear career aims can move onto a degree or Higher National Diploma on leaving Bexhill College or if they are still undecided they could do a pre-BA Foundation course. This is a diagnostic year which prepares you for entry onto a specialist Art and Design degree course.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
This course is a practical Art & Design course and you will be expected to have the necessary equipment and resources. You will need to buy sketchbooks, a portfolio, fabric for textiles and general art and design equipment. In photography it would be good to have a camera (a digital and/or an SLR) and you will need to buy photographic paper (approx 25.00 for a box of 100 sheets) as well as black and white film. Most of what you will need can be bought from the college Art shop. The course also involves visits to museums and art galleries.
