About this course

You will normally need to have at least one of the following: 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above to include Art & Design Merit grade at First Diploma Art & Design or equivalent. When you have applied for the course you will be called for an interview where your portfolio of art and design work will be reviewed.

The full-time Art and Design Diploma runs for two years and will equip you with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding of the design process necessary to succeed at a professional level. You will explore the skills and processes that are used in a wide range of subject areas. Sketchbooks are used throughout the course, as a means of recording visual research and developing ideas. At all stages of your assignments you will develop your visual language to discuss your work and the work of artists and designers. Visits to galleries, museums and parks occur at intervals throughout the course.

A BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels at Grades A E and is taken as a full-time course.

Course Details:
Students follow a broad range of projects within different specialist areas leading to a specific specialist pathway in the 2nd Year of the programme. An example of areas covered throughout the course include 3D Product Design, Computers in Art and Design, Graphic design and illustration, Website Design, Fine Art, sculpture and painting. As well as learning and developing skills in art, craft and design, you will develop your Key Skills in the areas of Communication (English).

Career Progression:
You may want to progress to higher education in a specialist BA (Hons) or a BTEC Higher National programme in Design in a University or College of Higher Education. Alternatively you may progress into jobs in the design area such as work in community arts projects and other art, craft and design related sectors.

Fees:
A range of visits to galleries and museums will be organised and will cost approximately 20 - 40.
