Art & Design Diploma in Foundation Studies - ADFN11AL

Is the course for me?
The course is for students who wish to progress onto specialist visual arts study at Degree/HND level. It offers students the opportunity to identify their particular enthusiasm and creative direction, as well as to develop personal creative practical and intellectual abilities. Mature students are welcome and applicants will need to have a portfolio of creative work to show at interview.

What will I learn?
The course begins with an introduction to the main art and design disciplines: painting and drawing, textiles/fashion, and graphic design. After this initial diagnostic experience the course becomes more student centred and offers the opportunity to begin specialist study in order to develop a relevant portfolio for successful UCAS specialist application. The history of art and contemporary theory and practise are studied alongside the practical elements of the course in order to inform and support the work. Visits to galleries and museums form part of the programme.

How will I be assessed?
Your progress is reviewed at 3 key stages of the programme, culminating in a final major project. The final two compulsory units (Units 8 and 9) are externally assessed and it is on the basis of these two final units that the grade for the award is given.

What can I do after the course?
You can progress to university to study Degree/HND level in specialist or combined art and design subject areas.
