Textiles Technology AS/A2

Entry Requirements
Minimum 5 GCSEs grades A* C. The course is a progression from GCSE textiles technology, but not an essential requirement. An interest in fashion, fabrics and design and some scientific knowledge are also desirable.

Course content
This course is ideal for students who have an interest in textiles and fashion. It builds on practical skills as well as developing a knowledge of the fashion industry.
What will I study?
AS: Year 1
Unit 1: Materials, components and applications
Unit 2: Coursework design and make
A2: Year 2
Unit 3: Design and Manufacture
Unit 4: Coursework project

How Will I Be Assessed?
Textiles Technology is assessed through a combination of coursework and written exams.
Units 1& 3, two hour written papers.

Are There Any Special Expenses?
You will need to buy samples for a technical file. You will also need to fund the cost of materials for your project work: 20.00 30.00. Some materials are provided and many are available at reasonable prices.

What Could I Do Next?
Progress to higher education. Apply experience and knowledge creatively in a range of textile design roles.
