Course Content
This course provides a multi-disciplinary approach to art and design within which you are able to participate in a diverse yet holistic visual arts experience. You may choose subjects with direction and guidance from tutors. A combination of modules from three disciplines are selected for first year study, two of which are carried forward to the second and third years. You are encouraged to choose modules from a cluster of courses although it is possible to choose from several clusters providing timetabling permits. The clusters are: 1. Fine Art and Crafts comprising - Sculpture, Ceramics, Painting and Multi-disciplinary. 2. Visual Communication comprising - Graphics and Photography. 3. Fashion / Textiles comprising - Fashion and Contemporary Textiles. This course is attractive to those who are not prepared to choose a single subject, for those intending to teach for it provides a wider range of skills and experience, for those interested in arts management or gallery direction. It also allows students to seamlessly move into a specialist subject during the first year.
Course Features
A unique range of subjects is available for study with a flexible approach to options during the first year. Should a student elect to transfer to a single subject mode of study during the first year the change is fully supported.

Skills, processes and material-based teaching throughout the first year gives a thorough understanding of disciplines, practice for development and interpretation in the second and third years
Annual 'Artist in Residence' programme for an ex-student from the faculty
Staff are committed to developing new skill areas, i.e. the building of a cast iron cupolette allowing students to cast iron (believed to be the only one in an educational institution)
Annual foreign educational visits
Students are eligible to study abroad under the LEONARDO programme
Specialist staff are brought in for specific skills, ie. willow work, wood working
Career Prospects and Progression
Graduates progress to post-graduate courses such as PGCE in Art and Design or Design Technology; MA in Arts Management or Arts Marketing. Many will freelance and or set up studio practice.
Modules
Year 1: Elective 1, Elective 2, Elective 3, Elective 4, Elective 5, Contextual Studies. Year 2: Contextual Studies, Arts Practice 5: Professional Studies, Intermediate Studio Skills, Art/Design Practice Project 6: Self Directed. Year 3: Dissertation, Enterprise and Visual Research each at 20 Credits and then Art/Design Practice 8: Self Directed (Final Major Project) at 60 Credits. A 40 credit Dissertation module is available for students requiring a greater research element. If this module is chosen, the 20 credit Enterprise module is dropped.
Method of Assessment
Coursework is assessed by individual modules, with credits accumulated annually.

Interviews: All applicants are assessed on an individual basis and will be offered the opportunity to attend an interview with a portfolio of their work. Advisory interviews are also available prior to course application.
