Course Description
The programme provides a high quality learning experience that will continue to develop highly skilled,flexible and creative early years practitioners,trainers,leaders and managers.

It is intended to enable students to acquire confidence in their professional role,to meet the challenges of change and innovation in early childhood practices,lifelong learning and diversity.Students will develop an understanding of theories,concepts and debates surrounding the topics explored in the individual modules.

Course Structure
The programme has been designed to consolidate and extend the students' existing skills, knowledge and understanding of their professional practice by investigation, analysis and reflection on aspects of their work with children.

The Modules covered are:
  • Advanced Professional Practice
  • Multidisciplinary Policy and Practice
  • International perspectives:Early Childhood Education and Care
  • Rights of the Child
  • Management Issues in the Early Childhood Sector
  • Managing Self and Others
  • Early Years Curriculum - Dissertation


The modules have a variety of assessment methods with clear assignment briefs and assessment ratios for each module. Modules are assessed by percentage and degree classification.

Entry Requirements
The aim of the programme is to enable students who have completed relevant level 5 work (HND or its equivalent 240 credit points) in early years/early childhood studies to progress to a BA Hons degree in Early Childhood Studies. The Programme provides opportunities for students to synthesise and apply their knowledge and understanding of early years practice. It also offers full-time and part-time modes of study.

Students will need to demonstrate in their application and interview:
  • Level 5 achievement of 240 credits,in an appropriate subject area
  • Previous work experience in the early years' sector
  • Access to work experience in the early years
  • An approved Disclosure (Police Check) for work experience

The course will suit those seeking employment at management level in early years' sector.

There are good prospects for graduates in a range of careers in childcare and education.It also provides a route for entry onto initial teacher training courses.
