PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
If you are passionate about Fine Art and want the opportunity to work with a broad range of media, have your own studio space and develop your creative skills in a supportive and friendly environment, then this is the course for you! The emphasis here is on contemporary practice, preparing you for a career as an artist or professional in the arts related industries. Experimentation and innovation is encouraged alongside an understanding of the ideas and issues informing artists today.

We have a small intake of students compared to other London colleges and so you will have regular contact with staff and easy access to our excellent learning resources: these include screen printing, etching and relief print rooms, Apple Mac suites, with up-to-date digital imaging, web, video and audio software, photographic studios and darkrooms, painting and 3-dimensional work areas and an art gallery. We have an experienced and dedicated core staff team whose artistic practices employ video, installation, photography, sound and book art. You will have the opportunity to across different media or concentrate on one particular area, reflecting current approaches to fine art practice. The course is modular and interdisciplinary and thus suited to individual needs and expectations. You will be expected to develop your own personal language within the different disciplines, making the transition from directed learning to more independent study and consolidating your visual identity and expertise. There is a long tradition of Fine Art at Croydon and with close proximity to the capital and a guaranteed bursary to all our students we offer excellent value.

What will I be doing?
We offer a range of practical workshop sessions in a range of traditional and new media including painting, drawing, sculpture, different print and photographic processes, video production and book art.

Students usually focus on one or two specialisms but may choose to combine different media throughout the degree to suit your own needs and career expectations.

Our aim is to fully support the development of your ideas by using the appropriate visual means, and the creative work produced on the course is diverse and dynamic reflecting the personal interests of our students. Your own creative development will be supported by a sound knowledge of the historical and theoretical approaches to fine art practice, visual studies lectures, visits to London galleries and the experience of exhibiting in our gallery and elsewhere.

Usually students visit a European city of culture during the second year of study.

You will be taught and assessed using a variety of methods including group critiques, project presentations, written statements, teamwork, essays, lectures, seminars and independent study. You will increasingly be able to direct your own study through critical reflection and work confidently between media. In the final year of study you will negotiate a personal project with your tutor in preparation for the degree show exhibition and supporting dissertation linking practice and theory.

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
Studying Fine Art at Croydon will offer you a range of potential employment opportunities as we aim to produce confident, informed graduates with enquiring minds and independence. On this course professional practice is emphasised throughout with the acquisition of creative, communication and conceptual skills, a visiting lecture programme, an artist-in-residence scheme, opportunities for exhibition, collaboration and work experience. You will apply for competitions, curate exhibitions and receive training in web site design, professional awareness and marketing skills. On completion you will be able to make the transition to the professional and commercial world, whether working as an artist, gaining employment in the creative industries, or further studies or training.

Graduates typically find employment in the visual arts, arts administration, curating, community arts, media communication, and other design areas. A significant proportion of our students follow postgraduate study.

ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE The department uses a range of assessment methods including the use of visual and verbal presentations, critiques, creative work, reports and essays. Formative assessment provides you with information on your ongoing performance in a module and enables you to reflect and adapt to aid personal development. Summative assessment takes place more formally at the end of a module and is formally recorded on your transcript.
