Course Overview This course offers the opportunity to develop skills in Beauty Therapy leading to employment in a growth industry. It is a one year course and is for those students wishing to gain a well recognised qualification; those wishing to add to existing qualifications or those wishing to up-date their current skills. s are popular.

Qualification gained: The course is validated by V.T.C.T (Vocational Training Charitable Trust) and the students gain an NVQ level 2 qualification in Beauty Therapy.

Course Content: The course is divided into modules covering: health and safety, promoting products and services, improving facial skin condition providing eyelash and eyebrow treatments, waxing, manicure and pedicure, make-up. Students are expected to work on each other initially to gain practical experience before they work on paying clients in the salon. All students complete four days on reception duty which can be on days when they are not normally timetabled into College courses. This is an integral part of the course and must be completed. During the course, leading manufacturers and suppliers will visit the College to give lectures and demonstrations on products and techniques. There may be additional costs involved if a certificate is awarded. Students also visit a trade show and seminar to see up to date treatments and have the opportunity to purchase additional equipment. Guest lecturers from different avenues of employment are invited to give students an insight into where this qualification can take them.

Work Experience: Work experience is desirable whilst training as it benefits the learner to experience the beauty industry first hand.

Course Assessment: All Beauty Therapy programmes are assessed through a combination of the following: Observation of practical work on clients, Project, assignments and case studies, Written and oral questioning and Building a portfolio of evidence to be submitted for assessment. An internal and external verifier will verify students' work before a certificate is awarded.

Progression: The achievement of level 2 will offer you progression to level 3 or the Holistic Therapies diploma if you wish to continue training. If you choose to go into employment then you may find work as a beautician within a salon or as a cosmetic advisor within a department store.

Homework: Homework is given every week and students should expect to allocate at least four hours a week to home study. This includes organizing their notes and reading around the subject area.

Additional Costs: Beauty Therapy Kit 75.00; Make-up Kit 80.00; Uniform and shoes 60.00 approx; Course text book 30.00; Educational visits and additional one day workshops 35.00 approx. Awarding body registration is payable of approx 12.00 and an assessment book 44.00 for students over 19, unless they receive benefits.

  • Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually.

Students have assignment work as part of their course so basic key board skills and access to a computer at home will be an advantage. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Students must have good people skills and not be afraid of physical interaction as this is a hands on course.
