Biomedical science represents an opportunity to put scientific knowledge into practical use and perform a key role within medical healthcare.
When you have visited hospital and had a sample taken from you by a doctor or nurse these would have been analysed by a biomedical scientist without whom it would not be possible to diagnose illness and evaluate the effectiveness of the necessary treatment.
On the course you will increase your self confidence in your ability to learn and study academic skills. You will also study biology, chemistry and statistics. This will enable you to apply to a variety of life science degree courses.
This course will prepare you for entry into Higher Education. The course is designed for the growing number of people wishing to pursue a career in Biomedical Sciences. The Access Diploma is a recognised qualification that universities accept as an entry route in to degree courses.

There are dedicated and well equipped specialist laboratories.
The library is well stocked and students also have access to both Sussex and Brighton University Libraries.
There is an active student union, careers and counselling service that students can make use of.
Tutors:
The tutors are experienced, well qualified and enthusiastic. They have been teaching the Access programme for many years and have a good understanding of the needs of Access students.

Successful completion of the course enables students to progress on to courses such as Foundation Degrees in Biological Sciences and Degrees in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Genetics, Science Teaching, Forensic Science.
There are many careers such as working in National Health Service laboratories and hospitals and the Public Health Laboratory Service. Biomedical scientists are also employed in a variety of roles including the veterinary service, the Health and Safety Executive, the Medical Research Council, university and forensic laboratories, pharmaceutical and product manufacturers and various government departments.
