Course Description: This course has been designed to allow students to study animal care and progress to a job within the industry or to Further Education. The student can acquire basic practical skills and also study the theory aspects.
It comprises of a combination of practical and theory sessions including Animal Establishments; Animal Accommodation Handling and Care, Farm Animal Production, Biology, Industry & Organisations and Work Related Experience. In addition to the First Diploma students also have the opportunity to gain an Intermediate Welsh Bacculaureate which includes key skills. As an integral part of the this course students undertake a two day field trip to Mid Wales which includes both the Livestock fair and Welsh Cultural Issues.
Entry Requirements: Applicants should possess 2 GCSEs at grade D or above.
Progression/Career Opportunities:
- Progression to National Diploma.
- Career opportunities include: kennel/cattery assistant, work within a grooming parlour, pet shop, welfare organisations or an assistant within a veterinary practice.
