Is the course for me?
This is a practical, work-related course introducing students to the exciting world of business through projects and assignments allowing the development of specialist skills and knowledge. Enterprise is a big part of your studies, this includes National Enterprise week and the National Make your Mark competition. You will also have the opportunity to listen to a variety of guest speakers and go on trips and visits to enhance your learning.

What will I learn?
You will complete six separate units of study including: Exploring Business Purposes, Developing Customer Relations, Investigating Financial Control, Business Communication, People in Organisations, Exploring Business Enterprise. You will also complete the Level 2 Deloitte Certificate in Employability skills. As part of your programme you will study for 2 Key Skills in Communications and IT.

How will I be assessed?
Each year of the BTEC First Diploma will consist of 6 units plus employment related qualifications. Each unit will be assessed by up to three assignments for which some time will be given at college, although you will, in addition, be expected to devote some of your own time to completing this work. Whilst your assignment work will be internally marked, it will be subject to external verification by BTEC/Edexcel who will make at least one visit per year to the college.

What can I do after the course?
A BTEC First Diploma in Business will help you develop the understanding, knowledge and skills needed in the business world today. It will provide a good grounding for you to go on to take a higher level qualification or to start work in many areas of business.
