The BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care is primarily aimed at school leavers. It is a practical work-related course in which you will complete assignments and projects based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
This is a full time course with attendance in college or at your work placement usually over four days per week.
The Course is made up of six units which include:
Communication and Individual Rights
Individual Needs within the Health and Social Care Sectors
Human Lifespan Development
Creative and Therapeutic Activities in Health and Social Care
The Impact of Diet on Health
Vocational Experience in a Health or Social Care Setting (Includes at least 60 hours work placements)
WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
Upon successful completion of the course you will achieve a BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care. You will also complete a programme of Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.
The College is committed to you studying for national qualifications in Maths, English and ICT within your vocational course. This will help you get the most out of your work, education and everyday life.

3c518-09 Course fees 0 16-18 year olds, 530(19) 19 years and over
Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.

There may be a small cost for optional trips throughout the year.
WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
Students can progress onto further courses within the college which may include the National Diploma in Health Studies or some Apprenticeships. Students may wish to enter the workplace where they may have the opportunity of further study towards an NVQ in Health and Social care.
