Course Description: A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. A BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A* - C. Modules include:

• Using ICT to Present Information
• Introduction to Computer Systems
• Website Development
• Software Design & Development
• Customising Applications Software
• Spreadsheets
• Databases
• ICT Graphics
• BCS Levels 1 & 2
• GCSE re-sit (either Mathematics or English if required)

Entry requirements:

• A Distinction in a BTEC Foundation Certificate in a related subject or
• A standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, in addition to GCSEs of E or above in Maths and English or other, related, Level 1 or 2 qualifications.

Progression/Career Opportunities: Progress to the BTEC National Diploma for IT Practitioners or entry level employment in the IT industry

USP/Did you know?: We cover a wide range of IT topics which naturally lead students on to the BTEC National Diploma course. In addition, students will study the ECDL which is a well recognised, highly regarded IT qualification in its own right.

Students are involved in many activities/trips including Disneyland Paris, BBC, Chelsea FC and Army Teambuilding. A range of guest speakers are also invited to speak to the students each year, to enhance their learning experience.
