Course description
You will discover:

• The types of jobs that are open to you in sport
• How to work with people in the industry
• The role of sport in society
• How to coach and train competitors of all levels

You will learn the theory and practice of:

• Teaching sport to children
• How the body works
• Sports organisations .

You will take part in:

• Practical sports
• Coaching sessions
• Teaching sessions for local school children.

The course is designed to be as practical as possible so that you will enjoy a wide range of experiences to help you understand the sport industry and some of the opportunities that you could have working in it. The course is designed to keep you busy and active, giving you the chance to develop practical skills as you seek to apply your knowledge. There will be times when you work with local schools, helping their children learn sports and activities skills.
There are three core units:

• The Sports Industry
• Health, Safety and Injury
• Preparation for Sport

and three specialist units:

• The Body in Sport
• Work Based Project
• Practical Sport.

A range of additional qualifications is also available to improve your opportunities and future career choices, such as Community Sports Leader Award, First Aid, Maths/English GCSE retakes, Governing body awards.

Final award
Edexcel (BTEC) First Diploma in Sport â€" equivalent to four GCSE at Grade A* to C.

Entry requirements
You must have an interest in sport and have four GCSEs at grade D or above.

This course is offered at our Abingdon Campus only.
*Students aged 16-18 will not be required to pay the full course fee, in most cases your fee will not exceed £150. Please contact us if you need more information regarding fees for full-time courses.
