Why should I study BTEC First Diploma in Travel and Tourism?
The course will provide learners with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the travel and tourism industry to enable them to progress

  • To further study on the BTEC National Certificate in Travel and Tourism


What will be studied on the course?
Learners will study 6 units ( 3 compulsory units and 3 optional units)

The three compulsory units are:

  • Unit 1 - The UK Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Unit 2 - Exploring Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • Unit 3 - UK Travel and Tourism Destinations


The timetable will also include Key Skills and additional travel and tourism qualifications, which will be offered as part of the course, e,g NCFE Certificate for Resort Representatives.

When does the course start and how long does it last?
This course starts in September and lasts for one academic year ending in June.

What qualifications are needed to do the course?

  • 4 GCSEs grade D, (which must include English and Maths)
  • A Merit in BTEC Introductory Diploma in Hospitality, Travel and Tourism

At our Consett campus.

How will the learner be assessed?
All units will be assessed through a variety of internal assessment methods, including written assignments, role-play, group work activities, and presentations. Final grades are awarded at Pass, Merit and Distinction depending on the number of marks achieved in each assessment over the year.

How much will the course cost?
You will be asked to contribute to the cost of the transport, accommodation and entry costs of educational visits.

What progression routes are available?
On successful completion of this course at a Merit grade learners could progress to
