Assessment and Progression: Assessment
Your work will be assessed regularly throughout the course. There are two types of assessments:
one to one meetings with lecturers where you have the opportunity to discuss your progress
formal assessments where you must submit your work for grading
You will always know how well you are doing and what you need to do to improve your work.
Progression
On successful completion of the course you can progress to employment or higher education in the following areas:- graphic design, advertising, typography, packaging, multimedia, visual imaging, animation and illustration.

Additional course costs
Studio fee at the start of Year One (approx. £50). Course materials (approx. £5 per week). Approx. four one-day educational visits (average £10 each). Five day visit to London in Year Two (approx. £260). Tuition and exam fees only apply to those aged 19 or over on 31/8/10.
16-18
If you are a student aged 16 -18 years old there will be NO fees to pay. Once you have started an individual qualification you will not be liable for fees even if you turn 19 before the end.
19+
Adult students may have to pay some or all of their course fees. Remission is available under certain circumstances, for example in receipt of benefits such as Job Seekers’ Allowance or Housing Benefit.
The course is largely practical and gives you a broad range of skills and experiences and you will use a range of resources, including digital SLR cameras, HD video cameras, editing software and Mac computer suites. You will learn a variety of skills, including photography, animation, single camera drama, multi-camera studio production, documentary production, research techniques, scriptwriting, critical analysis of media products and professional ways of working in the media industry.
The course is made up of eighteen units which deal with different aspects of Media Production including Research Techniques, Working to a Brief, Critical Approaches to Media Products, Understanding the Media Industries, Interview and Presentation Techniques, Shooting Single Camera Drama, Video Editing, Multi-Camera Production Techniques, Paper-based Animation, Factual Programme Production Techniques, Video Editing, Music Video Production

Entry Requirements:
You will need to have one of the following:
- At least four GCSEs at grades A-C one of these should be in English or Mathematics, and we prefer one to be in a creative subject, such as Media or Art & Design (not including Expressive Arts).
- A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject
- An Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject
- Appropriate work experience
Many applicants come straight from GCSE courses, but this course is also ideal for those who have been doing other things and want to change their career direction to art and design
