If you want to enter a caring profession this course is designed for you. It covers a wide range of compulsory subjects that are relevant to the Care sector.

Subjects covered include:
  • Applying Sociology & Psychology
  • Communication and Supportive Skills for Care Work
  • Equality, Diversity & Rights
  • Life Span
  • Nutrition
  • Personal & Professional Development
  • Values & Planning in Care.
Additional studies include:
  • British Red Cross Certificate in First Aid
  • British Sign Language
  • Food Hygiene Certificate.

In addition to these subjects, the course is timetabled to allow you to study for GCSE Physiology.

You will also be required to attend for a number of hours on a work placement, which includes a one-week compulsory residential placement, in the first year of the course, providing valuable hands-on experience.

You may be required to continue to study maths, English or IT as part of your course.

Method of Assessment

Progression

This qualification enables you to enter degree level programmes, teacher training, paramedical training (for those aged over 21 years), police work, nursing and social work. Alternatively, students can go straight into work in a variety of Health & Care settings, including community work and the Health Service.
