About this course
Normally you will require 4 GCSEs at grade A ? C and have a reasonable standard of English & Maths. However, applicants with appropriate experience will be considered. In addition you will be invited to attend an interview.

This 1-year course offers you the opportunity to study the theoretical and practical aspects of environmental science. The course provides a broad base for students wishing to study science and prepare for a future National Certificate/National Diploma. It is also relevant to assistant and practising technicians who want to enhance their skills experience and knowledge. Alongside this course you will also study the Welsh Baccalaureate, which is equivalent to 1 A level. Due to the structure of this course, on completion you will leave the College with 2 qualifications equivalent to 3 A-Levels, greatly enhancing your future opportunities.

What will I study?
You will study 6 BTEC units/modules, these will include: Scientific Principles; Laboratory Organisation; Role of the Science Technician; ICT & Laboratory MIS; Environmental Science and Principles of Plant & Soil. For the Welsh Baccalaureate you will explore a wide range of areas including how Wales ?fits in? with Europe and the rest of the world, the health of the nation and how to be enterprising.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed in all units by completing set assignment work, laboratory reports and the completion of an Integrated Vocational Assignment (IVA).
Career Opportunities & Progression
Excellent career opportunities exist in the field of environmental science as a technician. Successful students can also progress onto the National Certificate/National Diploma courses.
