Why should I study BTEC National Award/Certificate in Travel and Tourism?
To give learners the opportunity to gain a nationally recognised vocationally specific qualification to enable them to progress to:
- A HE course in Travel and Tourism
- Direct employment in the Travel and Tourism industry
What will be studied on the course?
Learners will study 12 units (4 compulsory and 8 optional) over the two years.
The four compulsory units are:
- Unit 1 - Investigating Travel and Tourism
- Unit 2 - The Business of Travel and Tourism
- Unit 3 - The UK as a Destination
- Unit 4 - Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
The timetable will also include Key Skills and additional travel and tourism qualifications, which will be offered as part of the course. These could include NCFE Certificate for Airline Cabin Crew, NCFE Certificate for Resort Representatives or NCFE Certificate for Airport Passenger Services Agent. There will also be a number of educational visits to different tourist destinations and attractions as well as a two-week work placement, which will be in the second year as part of enrichment.

This course starts in September and lasts for two academic years ending in May.

At our Consett campus.
How will the learner be assessed?
All units will be assessed through a variety of internal assessment methods, including written assignments, role-play, group work activities, and presentations.
Final grades are awarded at Pass, Merit and Distinction depending on the number of marks achieved in each assessment over the two years.
How much will the course cost?
You will be asked to contribute to the cost of the transport, accommodation and entry costs of educational visits. Travel and Tourism textbooks are available for loan from our Learning Resource Centre, but you may wish to purchase your own copy. You will also be expected to purchase a suit for the NCFE Certificate for Airline Cabin Crew course.
What progression routes are available?
On successful completion of this course learners could progress to
- A HE travel and tourism related course
- Directly into employment in to different parts of the industry including, Flight Attendant, Travel Agent, Resort Representative, Airport Passenger Service Agent
