What will I study?
You will learn about child health, the special needs of children, how children grow and develop, the culture and religion of children from various ethnic groups, legal and social issues involving children, and first aid. During work experience you will work with children up to 8 years of age, with a family caring for and looking after children, in a play group, in a primary school, nursery school, playgroup, day nursery, and hospital or with children with special needs.
Will I have to sit any examinations?
This is a busy course! You will have to undertake a number of assignments in each unit and complete them to an acceptable standard. In addition, some integrated assignments will be set and verified by the examination board.
What will I have at the end of the course?
On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the National Certificate or Diploma in Early Years, which includes a licence to practice in the Childcare field of work. In addition you can try for Food Hygiene and First Aid certificates.
What next?
You will be able to use the qualification to gain entry to a higher education college to follow a degree course in education, nursing, sociology or an HND course in Early Years and other students have found employment in primary schools looking after children, as private nannies, etc.
