4 GCSEs at grades A*- C (preferably to include English, Maths and Science); or
BTEC First Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering (merit); or
BTEC First Diploma in a related subject (merit); or
Other recognised UK/Overseas related FE Level 2 awards.
PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
These are broad-based Mechanical Engineering programmes consisting of 12 units (Certificate) and 18 units (Diploma). These programmes have been designed to offer students a specialised programme of study and give students the opportunity to advance their skills and career opportunities within the area of engineering. The core units are designed to introduce the student to the chosen qualification area and provide the formative knowledge and understanding needed to underpin the content of the specialist units. Specialist units provide the skills, knowledge and understanding within specific aspects of the Mechanical Engineering industry.

The subjects covered will include:

Communications for Technicians;
Computer Aided Design;
Engineering Design;
Engineering Drawing;
Health, Safety and Welfare;
Mathematics for Technicians;
Project; and
Science for Technicians.

In addition to the above subjects, students will be studying key skills at the appropriate level.

Subject to demand and timetabling this qualification could be combined with AS/A level and/or other awards in certain subjects.
