Course Description
This two year programme of study is designed to provide supervisory and assistant managerial skills within a diverse animal care industry. A challenging alternative to A Levels, you will have a balanced theoretical and practical approach to learning, complemented by work experience and visits to animal related establishments. The course includes an opportunity to work with and manage a range of animals in the purpose built on-site animal unit, grooming room and in a range of venues away from campus.

Course Content
Units of study include: Animal Anatomy and Physiology, Animal Behaviour, Animal Biology, Animal Breeding and Genetics, Animal Collection Management, Animal Grooming Parlour Management, Animal Health, Animal Nursing, Animal Nutrition, Animal Welfare and Breed Development, Business Management for Land-Based, Exotic Animal Management, Farm Livestock Management, Investigative Project in the Animal Management Sector, Kennel and Cattery Management, Land-Based Estate Construction, Repair and Maintenance Skills, Pet Store Management, Practical Animal Handling and Husbandry, Work Related Experience in the Animal Management Sector

An integrated programme of Functional Skills complements this vocational course.

Additionally students may study NVQ Animal Care and NPTC Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines as part of the course.

Career Progression
Higher Education, Foundation Degree in Animal Welfare and Management at Craven College or other provider
Employment within a range of disciplines in the animal care Industry such as: dog training and behaviour, grooming, kennel and cattery work, pet store work, working for animal charities, working within the veterinary profession
