Course Description
This course will provide an applied science qualification that reflects aspects of employment within the field of forensic science and related disciplines. This practical course is equivalent to three A Levels and is assessed continuously. It will provide you with a vocational introduction to science in industry. You will benefit from visits to specialist laboratories and guest speakers. Assessment is portfolio-based covering a variety of scientific investigations.
Course Content
The course consists of six core units and 12 specialist units.
Core units:
- Application of Numbers for Science
- Fundamentals of Science
- Perceptions of Science
- Scientific Investigation
- Scientific Practical Techniques
- Working in the Science Industry
Specialist units may include:
- Chemical Laboratory Techniques
- Criminology
- Criminal Psychology
- Fire Investigation
- Forensic Evidence Collection
- Forensic Photography
- Forensic Psychology
- Physiology of Human Body Systems
Course Length and Study Pattern
The course is two years in length, with approximately 16 hours per week over 3 days each week, from September to July.

Assessment
Each unit is assessed by assignment task, which build into a portfolio. There are no exams.
