Course Content

This is a practical work related course which provides the learner with the opportunity to develop that knowledge, understanding and skills in a range of subject areas related to the business environment including human resources, marketing, law and finance. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations.

Career Prospects and Progression

National Awards, Certificates and Diplomas provide an excellent basis for progression to higher level qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas or to employment in areas such as marketing, retailing, accounts/finance and teaching, personnel management and general administration.

Modules

The National Award is a 6 unit qualification - 4 core units plus 2 specialist units. The core units are: Exploring Business Activity, Investigating Business Resources, Introduction to Marketing, Effective People, Communication and Information. The National Certificate is a 12 unit qualification which consists of 4 core units and a selection of 8 specialist units. The National Diploma is an 18 unit qualification which consists of 4 core units and a selection of 14 specialist units.

Method of Assessment

The course is assessed through coursework, assignments, projects, case studies and practical activities.

Entry Requirements

Normally students 16 - 19 years of age will require either a minimum 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, a First Diploma in Business, a GNVQ at Intermediate level, NVQ Level 2 in an appropriate subject or an equivalent qualification is also acceptable. Entry for mature students without formal qualifications is at the discretion of the Faculty.
