BTEC National Diploma in Construction

Course Description: This course introduces students to a wide range of construction related knowledge. The course is recognised nationally and internationally as a progression towards Higher Education and professional opportunities within the Construction Industry. Activities include classroom-based learning, building and land surveying. Work is assessed via written assignments and participation in practical activities including material testing, surveying and setting out processes.

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in the Construction and the Built Environment
  • Construction and the Environment
  • Science and Materials in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Construction Technology and Design in Construction and Civil Engineering
  • Planning Organisation and Control of Resources
  • Measuring, Estimating and Tendering Processes for Construction
  • Graphical Detailing in Construction and the Built Environment
  • Surveying for Construction and Civil Engineering


Entry requirements:
  • 4 GCSEs a grade C or above or
  • BTEC First Diploma in Construction (or a related area) or
  • an Intermediate GNVQ in an appropriate related area


Progression/Career Opportunities: Many students use their qualification to progress onto a higher education courses. Alternatively, successful completion of the course can enable students to progress to trainee management positions, or pursue a career in Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Construction Management.
