About this course

Learners will normally require one of the following:
4 GCSEs grade C with a minimum of Maths and English at grade D
BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care at Merit level with some units at Distinction
Intermediate GNVQ at Merit and 2 Functional Skills at level 2
Equivalent qualificatis
A CRB check
Learners over 20 years old without formal qualifications will be given every consideration.

You will gain a BTEC National Diploma in Health and Social Care. You will also complete a programme of Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT. These Functional Skills are an essential requirement for employment progression, higher education and other further education courses.

There are no examinations, you will be assessed by coursework.

The College is committed to you studying for national qualifications in Maths, English and ICT within your vocational course. This will help you get the most out of your work, education and everyday life.

As part of your course you will have a tutorial period which is designed to support your learning and assist your progress. In addition there are activities to enrich your experience.

WHAT WILL IT COST ME?
3c103-09 Course fees 0 16-18 year olds, 880(280) 19 years and over

Course fees are payable on enrolment. Costs shown in brackets are for those on income-based benefits. Refunds are not normally available.

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for approximately 20 - 24 hours per week. In addition, you will need to spend 10 to 15 hours per week on coursework at home or in college. Your assignments will need to be completed by the set deadlines.

The timetable could be:

Monday 9.15am - 4.30pm
Tuesday 9.00am - 4.30pm
Thursday 11.00am - 4.30pm
Friday 9.00am - 12.15pm

In addition to the above, work experience requirement is currently 400 hours and is an essential part of the programme. Learners will be required to attend work placement and will negotiate placement arrangements with Professional Practise Tutors. Work placements will be on at least one day each week plus a number of 2 week blocks.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
Learners may progress into higher education, for example a Degree or Diploma in Higher Education / BSC in Nursing or Midwifery training or Social Work. Alternatively they may go straight into work i.e. Health Care or Social Services.
