ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
This specialised programme provides you with an Advanced Level qualification in the study of Health and Social Care. This programme is an excellent choice for students wishing to study Health and Social Care and have the option in Year 2 or specialising in Health Studies or Social Care Studies. It promotes a wide range of academic and vocational skills which employers and providers of Higher Education are looking for. This programme is the equivalent of three A Levels and most students go on to University to study subjects such as Psychology, Teacher Training, Social Sciences, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Complimentary Therapies, Social Work and Health Sciences.

As part of our selection process you will be required to attend an interview where you will demonstrate your ability and commitment to working in the Childcare and Early Years sector together with a satisfactory reference, which will ask for information about your behaviour, punctuality and attendance. To join our programme you will need to have:

.A Level 2 qualification or equivalent awarded at Merit level;
.4 GCSEs Grades A* - C including English or equivalent;
.A minimum of Level 2 Literacy and Level 1 Numeracy which will be assessed at interview;
.In exceptional circumstances where prospective students over the age of 19 do not meet the minimum qualification requirement, accreditation for prior learning and experience may be taken into account.

Croydon College is committed to supporting employability and developing excellence within the Health and Social Care profession. Units on the course require applicants to work with younger children. All applicants will be screened by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) as this will help identify applicants who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to achieve GCSE Mathematics, English and a Human Science if you are required to do so. This will be important for those who do not have a Grade C (or equivalent) or above and wish to train as Early Years/Primary School Teachers or Nurses.

To pass your programme you will need to have successfully completed a minimum 100 hours of Work Experience in a range of Health and Social Care settings in the form weekly on-going and intensive blocks throughout the course. You will have the full support of our specialist Work Placement staff who are highly experienced Health and Social Care practitioners and work placement supervisors.

PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of the programme you the option of seeking employment in the Health and Social Care or Allied Care Sector as well as the option of progression to study at University to embark upon undergraduate study in allied Health and Social Care programmes.
