Course Description
This course is for those who have already successfully completed the First Diploma in Horticulture or have four GCSEs at grade C or above. This two year course incorporates a work placement unit and you will attend lectures and practical workshops at college. During the course you will be asked to choose from a range of units giving you an opportunity to develop a specialism in general horticulture, arboriculture (tree surgery) or garden design. Facilities include glasshouses and polytunnels with a teaching garden area where plants are grown both for commercial sales and for educational purposes. Teaching takes place both within college grounds and the horticulture unit as well as making use of off-site resources and projects. The Horticulture Department actively participates in shows and competitions, recently winning the northern heat of the UK Skills competition and a Gold Medal at the Harrogate Spring Flower Show.
