About this course
Learners will normally require one of the following:
4 GCSEs grade A* - C and a minimum of Maths and English at grade D
Intermediate GNVQ at Merit and 2 key skills at level 2
Equivalent qualifications
Learners over 20 years old without formal qualifications will be given every consideration. There is a informal interview for the course.

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
On the National Diploma for IT Practitioners course, you will gain a good understanding of the computing industry and its relationship to the world of business through practical exercises and work-related class work. You will also develop skills that you need in Higher Education or for employment.
WHAT DO I NEED?
WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for approximately 18 hours per week. In addition you will need to spend 10-15 hours per week on coursework at home or in college. Your assignments must be completed by the set deadlines to ensure the examining board can issue certificates on time, and you will need to attend regularly and punctually. Your coursework will be marked by your tutor and checked by the external verifier appointed by the examining board.
WHAT WILL I ACHIEVE?
You will gain a BTEC National Diploma, which is equivalent to three A Levels, after two years, and a Certificate in Functional Skills. There may be an opportunity to take an additional GCSE.

COURSE CONTENT
You will study eighteen units over the two years. These will concentrate on the areas of:
Computer applications
Website design and production
Computer graphics
Programming
Computer hardware and operating system
Electronic communication and networks
Business, including eCommerce
You will be assessed through coursework. There are no examinations.
Your timetable will include a tutorial period, which is designed to support your learning and assist your progress.
